Established by the Woodruff and Charlton families to honour Lyndsay Woodruff’s life and legacy in nursing.

The L M Woodruff Memorial Sub Fund was established in 2007 by the Woodruff and Charlton families to honour the life of Lyndsay (Lorry) Woodruff—known affectionately as “Matron Woody”—and her lifelong dedication to nursing. A trained nurse from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Lyndsay’s legacy was shaped not only by her professional service but also by her compassion, community involvement, and the care she received in her final years at Boandik Lodge.

Moved by the stories of local nurses and the challenges they faced—balancing study, childcare, travel and household responsibilities—her son John Woodruff initiated the fund to support young women in the Limestone Coast pursuing nursing careers at any level.

The sub fund provides scholarships through Stand Like Stone’s Educational Scholarship Fund, helping reduce barriers to entry and enabling more women to follow in Lyndsay’s footsteps. It stands as a perpetual tribute to her life of service and the nurses who continue that tradition today.
