Swinging with the Stars
2013

What do a teacher, a publican, a primary producer, a speech pathologist, a percussionist, a merchandise manager, a beauty therapist and a Simmental stud owner have in common?

This group will kick up their heels in a bid to be crowned the number one Star or the People's Choice winner at the 2013 “Swinging with the Stars” to be held at The Barn, Mount Gambier on 22 June 2013.

This year's event promises glitter, glamour and as always a touch of unpredictability with a diverse group of "Stars" all hitting the dance floor. The line-up for the 2013 is:

  • Grant High School teacher Laura Mancuso, who is raising funds for Stand Like Stone's Grant High School student scholarship.
  • Bellum Hotel owner and local identity Simon Livingstone, who claims to have received a standing ovation whilst dancing to “Grease Megamix” in Israel.
  • Penola’s own Tom Edwards, whose acting skills will be put on the back burner as he fine-tunes his foxtrot and raises funds for Stand Like Stone's Penola Coonawarra Wellbeing sub-fund.
  • Speech Pathologist, Rosanna Barson, who brings an international flavour to the competition and is very glad to be raising money for a good cause.
  • Mount Gambier High School music teacher Tom Hart, who is hoping to bring out his inner “Swayze” and is raising funds for Stand Like Stone's Mount Gambier High School student scholarship.
  • Landmark Merchandise Manager Amy Young, who will draw support from all around the Limestone Coast.
  • Beauty Therapist and Real Estate Agent Tahlia Gabrielli, who Kongorong Sportsman’s Club will rally behind.
  • Morton Simmental Stud Owner Scott Davidson, whose connections extend from Kingston to Kybybolite, Keith to Kalangadoo ... and everywhere in between!

Winner of last year's event, Rhett McDonald, will return as a judge and is looking forward to the "Stars" dazzling him with their new moves.  Last year’s dance instructor, Kim Cella, who knows what it takes to Tango to the top, joins him.  Former ABC radio presenter, Alan Richardson completes our trio of judges, and he is looking forward to seeing what the Limestone Coast has to offer on the dance floor. With Kate English, from Envy Dance Studio, teaching the "stars" their new moves, it is sure to be an exciting night.

Tickets for Swinging with the Stars are $75.00 and are on sale at Chapman’s Newsagency, Mount Gambier, Ph 8725 3300

2012 SWINGING WITH THE STARS RAISES A STAGGERING $24,500

For the fifth year running a group of local "stars" danced up a storm at Swinging with the Stars.  Daryl Somers with the Generations in Jazz Academy Band had the 450 guests crowding onto the dance floor to show their moves.

The "stars" Kirsty Amos, Therese Musolino, Donna Edwards, Larnka de Breuk, Courtney Noble, Matt Bryant, Rhett McDonald and Josh Wilson with their partners Jason Scheidl, Hamish Medhurst, Jake England, Luke Forster, Andrew Lockwood, Alex Bell, Sara Turnbull and Jessica Mills, impressed the crowd with a Jive, Foxtrot and Tango.

To the delight of the guests who had travelled from Penola, Rhett McDonald and Sara Turnbull were announced as the winning couple - receiving a trophy and winners sash.

In total Swinging with the Stars raised a staggering $24,500 for the Stand Like Stone Foundation.  These funds will continue to build on the support that Stand Like Stone has delivered to the Limestone Coast region through grants to charitable projects and educational scholarships.
